The Spiritual Significance of Easter

April 14, 2017

"And in my heart, the deepest peace, Christ's clarity, lucid and quiet and ever-present as eternity. On these big feasts, you come out on top of a plateau in the spiritual life to get a new view of everything. Especially Easter. Easter is like what it will be entering eternity when you suddenly, peacefully, clearly recognize all your mistakes as well as all that you did well: everything falls into place.

—Thomas Merton, diary entry for Easter Sunday, March 28, 1948, in The Intimate Merton: His Life from His Journals, edited by Patrick Hart and Jonathan Montaldo (1999)

The term “Easter” appears in several languages: In Hebrew "Pesach," in Greek "paskha," in Latin "pache," in Spanish "Pascua," in Italian "Pasqua" and in French "pâques," but symbolizing in all different languages the changes, "transformation," "freedom,"  or "rite of passage."

Easter, together along the festivals such as Wesak, and Asala, and Christmas, are the most important sacred dates of the year for the Beings of the Great Universal White Brotherhood. This because they carry a lot of the significant old traditions and rites of passage of the ancient initiation rituals.

The date for Easter was chosen based upon the ancient lunar calendar system, but the Christian date was set during the Council of Nice in 325 AD as "the first Sunday after the first full moon that occurs after or at the equinox of spring ."

For 40 days, Jesus fasted and alone also confronted his lower self with his ego. In the Bible, it is written that in this period when Jesus was alone fasting, the "devil" introduced himself and said: "If you are the Son of God, turn these stones into bread."

The esoteric tradition tells us that only the highest initiates were able to partake of the Mysteries and the energies that occur at this equinox. For most people, including the apprentices of the Mysteries and the disciples, the heavenly energies of the Equinox were celebrated by "reflection" on Full Moon.

When the Pagan Gods were Christianized many of the celebrations and symbolism were absorbed, which is why the traditional Easter symbols are connected with this ancient celebration.

Thus, Easter always represented, regardless of the place where it is celebrated, the passage from one period of darkness to another of light and this long before being considered one of the main festivals of Christianity.

Easter is the ideal time to get in touch with energies that transfigure our lives. It is a period overseen by Archangel Raphael, the guardian of the Holy Grail. Now, at this time of year, it is Archangel Raphael's mission to help sharpen our senses so that the soul can actually see and know what in its path still needs to be done.
